Ian Goligher

Dear congregation,

At last night's Session meeting it was decided to return to in-person services commencing on Wednesday, June 3., and to both morning and evening services commencing Sunday, June 7.

Lord willing, we will have the following measures in place for the safety of all who attend:

  1. We will only meet in the upstairs area and use the front door only to enter the sanctuary. This is to keep the lower level solely for the use of the pre-school to avoid requirements to sanitize their area etc.
  2. Attendance will be kept under 50 in the sanctuary, using alternate benches and assigned benches for families to sit together while others will be required to keep a distance.
  3. We will use music sheets for each service for praise without singing aloud. While the music is played we will lip the words. Singing aloud has proven to cause the spread of the virus where it is present.
  4. An offering box will be placed on the foyer table to eliminate contact.
  5. We will not celebrate the Lord's Supper in the month of June. When we do hold our next communion service we will ask communicants to bring their own juice and bread.
  6. The length of services will be kept under one hour to reduce the use of washrooms.
  7. We will continue to webcast Sunday services and Wednesday prayer messages and use the Zoom Conference call during the prayer time. This will facilitate those who are unable to attend, or those not comfortable attending while the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic remains.
  8. There will be no handshaking or physical contact with fellow believers and parents will be asked to keep their children close at all times.
  9. All hard surfaces will be sanitized after each service.
  10. An attendance record will be kept for each service. If any attendee should become ill and test positive for Covid-19 we ask that the session be notified immediately.

The details of this plan will be shared with our deacons on May 26, when further steps may be included to safeguard all who attend our services.

We are thankful for the commitment of our congregation during these weeks of isolation. Thank you for tithing, joining in by webcast, and participating in our prayer times by Zoom. We sincerely look forward to more normal worship times with you present in our midst. Attendance is voluntary and if you wish to hold off attending until a future date we fully understand your decision and caution. This is no ordinary flu!

This plan is in line with health advisories at this time. If things change, we may need to revise our plan to keep everyone safe. The safety of our people is paramount in our planning and our prayers as we look to the Lord for His watch care over each one.

I am thankful to report that I know of no one in our congregation nor none of our radio listeners who have become ill with this virus. We are thankful to live in a part of Canada that has had fewer cases of Covid-19 than elsewhere. Sadly, there has been a report of cases at Langley Lodge where Mr. Chesney ministered for many years. Do pray for the Lord's help for all in that residence. Services there have been postponed indefinitely.

As you may have heard me state, my prayer is that this will be a time of spiritual growth in each one of our people. We look forward to the fellowship of believers with beaming faces and full of the joy of the Lord. Remember, we are only to live the life of a branch and the Lord will bring forth the fruit through us. Our witnessing is not just what we do, but who we are.

The Lord bless you and keep you in His love,

Pastor Goligher
